MY MOST PROMINENT RACING ACQUAINTANCES

Parnelli Jones: I raced PJ in NASCAR in 1957. He finished 1st in the ‘63 INDY 500, as the driver, and 1st in the ’70 & ’71 INDY 500s, as the cars’ owners

Art Pollard: I raced Art in A-Modifieds in 1953 & 1954. He finished 8th in the ‘67 INDY 500, but he died in a crash in the ‘73 INDY 500

Len Sutton: Raced Roadsters, Midgets, Sprints & NASCAR, and he finished 2nd in the ‘62 INDY 500, before serving many years as the INDY 500 radio broadcast ‘Color-Man’

Shorty Templeman: Raced Midgets, and he finished 4th in the ‘61 INDY 500, but he died in a 1962 Midget crash in Ohio

Pat Vidan: Portland Speedway Starter, before he served 17 years as the INDY 500 Starter

Sandy Belond: His ‘Belond Exhaust Special’ INDY race cars finished 1st in the ‘57 & ’58 INDY 500s. Sandy was my boss at W.R. Grace - Appliance Industries, an automotive aftermarket wheel & exhaust system manufacturing company, where I  served as Chief Industrial Engineer. He personally introduced me to Parnelli Jones at the 1974 SEMA convention, in Anaheim, CA, where the company was exhibiting its products.
